Encounters in Space:  Exploring Microgravity and Robotics ($4,500)

Teachers:  Judy Murray, Leslie Rodriguez, et al. 

Gives students an opportunity to explore scientific processes during and beyond regular school hours.

Comal Elementary

Write Anywhere ($4,500)

Teachers:  Joni Coker, Jan Sitta, Rosie McConaghy, et al.  

Utilizes technology to improve students' fluency and skills in writing with the help of AlphaSmarts, an electronic companion.

 

Canyon Middle

Healthy Living Class ($2,000)

Teachers:  Lindsey Warren Davis, Terri Wisian, et al.  

Focuses on low impact exercise and teaching healthy living concepts to students at risk for various health problems related to poor nutrition and sedentary lifestyles.

 

Hoffmann Lane Elementary 

Kindergartners Investigating Through Science ($4,500)

Teachers:  Cindy Bennett, Sheila White, et al.  

Provides science-based literature, age-appropriate tools and opportunities to students to develop their abilities to do scientific inquiry in the field and in the classroom.

 

Mt. Valley Intermediate 

Allstars Taking Active Roles to Success ($4,500)

Teachers:  Cindy Eckhart, Robin Klock, et al.  

Funds teachers for after-school tutoring and provides after-school transportation for students in need of additional academic assistance.

 

Specht Elementary 

Meeting Technology Needs in the Kindergarten Classroom ($2,500)

Teachers:  Shannon Boss, Sharon Cumberland, et al.  

Students are learning how to obtain and use electronic information and use the computer as a communication tool, through both individual and group projects.

 

Specht Elementary 

Research and Writing Centers for 4th Grade Classrooms ($2,000)

Teachers:  Georgia Franks, Susan Dawson, et al.  

Digital cameras, scanners, printers, and Maxviews are being used to establish classroom research/writing centers to improve student writing skills in four 4th grade classrooms.

 

Specht Elementary

RoboLab ($4,500)

Teachers:  Roxanne McDaniel and Kim Stanzione  

Fifth-grade students are using the Lego Mindstorms building set and their creativity, logic and problem solving skills to design, build, and program a real-life robot that performs a specific task in an imaginary city.

 

Smithson Valley High School 

Sustaining Services of the College and Career Center ($4,500)

Teachers:  Nancy Wagner, Sharon Strickland, et al.   

Sustains and provides for the most current information needed in order for students and patrons to pursue the education necessary to achieve their college and occupation goals.
