Bulverde Elementary 

Science Lab ($1,000)

Teacher:  Michelle Grell  

Provides equipment, supplies, and safety items for a science lab where children can do hands-on science experiments.

 

Hoffmann Lane Elementary 

A “Novel” Idea ($2,024)

Teachers:  Heather Alexander, Susan Clark, Ainslie Hermes, and Amy Morgan

Provides novels in different genres for third-grade students to correlate with different subject areas and use in different reading situations such as whole class, small group, paired, individual, oral reading, and silent reading.

 

Mt. Valley Elementary 

Project KIDS “Kindergarteners Involved in Discovering Science” ($966.34)

Teacher:  Abbie Barr  

Provides hands-on, age appropriate materials for kindergarten students to explore the world of science, thereby enabling them to observe and develop basic science concepts while constructing functional vocabulary based upon their experiences.

 

Mt. Valley Elementary 

TNT2 Technology Needs Today, Technology Needs Tomorrow ($1,000)

Teacher:  Dorothy Matschek  

Funds a technology-based project built upon utilizing RoboLab 2.5 and related LEGO materials to enhance problem solving skills in realistic situations.

 

Rebecca Creek Elementary 

AlphaSmart Writing Project ($2,503.76)

Teachers:  Christina Smith, Gaytha Braun, Susan Cohen, and Susan Slattery  

Funds the purchase of an AlphaSmart rechargeable starter set for use by fourth-grade students that will result in improved quality and quantity of writing in preparation for the TAKS writing test.

 

Smithson Valley High 

Jumpstart Your Essays ($2,276)

Teachers:  Danette Bermea, Ann Alexander, Mary McCord, and Susan Zachary  

Funds a SmartBoard, an interactive whiteboard, that enables teachers to make language arts computer presentations interactive, save additional material presented during class and then transmit it to all students for their use at home.

 

Smithson Valley High 

Emergency Preparedness ($1,444.90)

Teachers:  JoAnn Beissner, Rodney Murray, and Thomas Petmecky  

Partially funds a HeartStart Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to use in case of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and on which students, teachers, nurses, and coaches will be trained.

 

Smithson Valley Middle  

Integrating Technology in the Social Studies Classroom ($3,785)

Teachers:  Donovan Dove, Stephen Foster, and Roly Borden  

Funds a Classroom Performance System allowing teachers to integrate technology into the social studies curriculum to increase student performance and achievement in the classroom.
